I've just found out how to reduce the pricing. If you cancel your plan, you will be given the option to go onto "classic" family plan, at 139. This does not have any AI included with Microsoft office suite

The price increases don't apply until July so we'll have to wait until then to see if they still offer any retro-plan alternatives at that time @|1|1|1. Certainly the default MS 365 renewal will increase but I'm sure there will be other options such as student versions etc. The customers who they lose will likely be more than offset by the extra money they bring in from the price increases for the majority who will stay. I have too many files that were created in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. to be swiching over to a non-Microsoft alternative now.

This is, as other have rightly said, a great example of the pricing power a company has when they dominate a space like this and switching costs in terms of time and effort involved is considerable. There is also the likelihood of a loss of some functions or features if you do switch to a cheaper (or free) alternative, plus issues with the compatibility of all of your existing files. Some years ago I did try to switch to "OpenOffice" but most of my spreadsheets didn't work properly and/or needed a lot of reformatting to make them look and work like they had done in Excel. I returned to MS Office, now MS 365, and I'm likely to always stick with them in the future as I now consider it essential and worth paying for.

I'm on holidays in WA now, and have limited online time this week, so won't be posting much here until next week. Then I'm off to Tasssie up until Australia Day, so it'll be a quiet January in terms of my own contributions here. I'm still checking in and reading content every day or two, but only for about 10 mins.

As is usually the case, when I'm not at home, some of the companies I hold have some good moves, and in this case it has been Catalyst (CYL), and especially Meeka (MEK) which has gone vertical. I'll have to do this more often!

I get this in my inbox this morning, a 28.8% price increase. I suppose this is Microsoft's way of celebrating the New Year.

I would guess cancellations due to the subscription price increase would not be a fraction of 1%.

“Thank you for choosing Microsoft”  - what choice does anyone have. What a business.

And it sells on a forward consensus PE of about 33.

@Scoonie me too! It got me thinking, at what price would I cancel?

Haven’t decided on a number yet. Now that’s pricing power.

It might help if there was a competitive offering that could be considered....

@Scoonie same here, at least they have given a reasonable time to assess. maybe for the first time, i will see what the Google Workspace actually does and what it costs. $179/pa tax deductible is still a question of is it worth my time to investigate it? MSFT is spending a fortune on NVDA chips and needs to show a return on that spend. hold both MSFT GOOGL--the manglers. will be listening to both quarterlies.
