While highlighting the important video data capability that $CAT has gained with its acquisition of SBG Sports Software (Racewatch) in 2021, it is worth highlighting the insane amounts of data involved in F1 racing.

I've recently re-connected with my boyhood fascination with F1 discovering the Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive. (I'm mid-way through season 1 (2018) - so no spoilers, please!), as if I ever needed reminding how fast-paced the sport is, and what a fantastic crucible it is for software innovation.

And while generally trawling around the subject, I also found the video below about the collaboration between F1 and Amazon AWS. I imagine outputs from Racewatch are one of the feeds into the AWS initiative, Track Pulse. It is worth remembering that there are other big players interested in using the data generated in sports. It is by no means an open playing field for $CAT, although their player-sourced data will be a real asset.

With a market cap of still below $1bn, given its leading position in Pro Sports, you'd have to think $CAT might one day be a juicy morsel for the big tech or media companies, if they see value in all this data. (Of course, I hope that doesn't happen! But if they continue to execute well and find strong market fit, you'd have to put a reasonable likelihood on it.)
