Interesting snippet from the ABC Business site:

By Stephanie Chalmers Perhaps not relevant to this blog, but as the mother of a Deaf child, can we please have a conversation around cochlear implants? Amplifying natural sound is always a better solution, and we are fortunate enough that my child does not need cochlear implants. But the number of times I have to explain this to people! Cochlear implants remove all existing hearing and replace it with something that sounds quite robotic, and not at all natural (the movie Sound of Metal explores this beautifully.) They are not a "miracle cure." They don't "restore" hearing. And just as my child has to struggle with their hearing aids to differentiate the sounds that are important from the sounds that aren't, so, too, do people who use cochlear implants - it's a lot of brain work. I am grateful this technology exists for the people who choose to utilise it. But they are over-hyped, and as the parent of a deaf child, I am sick of people assuming they are a "cure." My child is perfect just as they are. They don't need to be "cured."

Thanks for the snippet & link @Superfluous. I'm hoping (and feel very confident) that no one on this forum uses terms like "cure" or "cured" when referring to solutions such as Cochlear Implants, I know I certainly would never be so superficial about such a complex subject/topic, particularly as I (for now) have good hearing ability and hope to never try these implants. That said, it seems like there are many people who do get some form of hearing and therefore satisfaction from such implants and in their cases, there is obviously no right or wrong decision. It should always be an individual choice by the end user or their guardian, in the case of the very young.

No slight on you of course @Superfluous for the post, it's always great to see wider views on topics we sometimes take for granted and the ABC article you posted certainly did that!!

Tough year for COH, which was mainly revealed by the poor interim. poor CF as seen in the bottom chart. new product should help going fwd, guidance is ok into FY26 imo. im a buyer around $240 prefer RMD in the Med equip space.

Yes, I thought this was a reasonably solid result @raymon68. Seems the market has other ideas at opening and is running the SP down at the moment. For a company that has great product, global reach and very good management team, it still surprises me that the market led by the analysts still want to punish $COH even when it kicks a few goals.

While there is certainly going to be long-term impacts from new gene therapy competition being trialed in USA & China, surely that is still some way off and meanwhile, the world still needs cochlear implants as the most tried and true solution for hearing impairment. I mean implants shipped up 12% is not a bad result for a company whose products are supposedly under attack from new therapies!!

Yes there will definitely be future impacts from the science world, but for now I think $COH still have me as a supporter and the solution of choice for the world market.
