I'm on the Sunshine Coast laid up with a broken ankle so couldn’t get down to BrisVegas but will endeavour to meet up with you guys next time round. In the meantime I'll continue reading all the great contributions the community has to offer.

Go Broncos!

@UncleWally - look forward to it.

In fact @lowway (locals will get the clue in his handle!) and I tossed around the idea of catching up in January in Noosa / Coolum, as I decamp to the Sunny Coast in the summer. I know there are several other StrawPeople up that way.

Thanks to @mikebrisy for organising tonight's great catchup in Brissie, it was greatly appreciated.

Thanks also to @Strawman for the heart starters and to all the attendees for a fun night

And to all the attendees for a very entertaining and fulfilling evening

Unfortunately, the paparazzi had bigger plans last night, so you'll just have to take our word for it happening @Strawman ????

Thanks to all the fellow QLD StrawPeople who were able to make it last night and who all contributed to such an enjoyable evening. Some came from far and wide (specifically, the Sunny and Gold Coasts). I know there were also 3 or 4 others who'd have liked to have come, but coudn't make that date, so we'll make sure you get first dibs on date selection next time.

Thanks to @tomsmithidg for recommending C'est Bon (in Woolloogabba) - food, drinks, service and ambience were most conducive with a lively investor-focused conversation.

I know I failed in my one job of getting a photo (soz!), but I blame that on the very stimulating, non-stop conversation on an array of topics including (but not limited to):

  • $4DX; $AD8; $AVH; $BOT; $CAT; $CDA; $CSL $NEU; $PAR; $PME; $PWR; $RMS; $VTM; $WDS; $WTC; $XRF; ... and others
  • retail participation in capital raising
  • CEO / leadership behaviour
  • AI (and more AI)
  • drug discovery and development; R&D management; the role of compute power and the potential impact of AI
  • Bitcoin
  • investing styles and lessons learned
  • portfolio construction and risk appetite
  • the continuum of valpollicella wines from the Veneto and Lombardy regions and why Kent is the "New Loire"
  • mining; and what a phenomenal community resource @Bear77 is, with his encycopaedic knowledge of the mining and engineering sectors;
  • and how @DrPete's $SGI pitch years ago, was the "pitch of the decade" giving us the opportunity to participate in a multi-bagger
  • energy, and how come I very rarely offer investing tips in that space depsite having spent the lion's share of my career in the industry
  • ... other topics which, as I write this have temporarily faded from memory, which I blame in part on the second bottle of the excellent Gamay, wisely selected by @Chagsy

Finally, thank you also to our absent spiritual leader @Strawman (actually, his engagement was more "corporeal" ... thanks for contributing to the drinks tab!) Let's get you there in person in 2026!

Now to write up my work plan flowing from all the ideas discussed!

Thanks very much @mikebrisy and for a tremendous recap. Great to chat with all the other strawmen on the night. Maybe lunch in Noosa for the next one.
