A good recent article about GLP-1’s working alongside CPAP therapies rather than replacing them altogether. Supports Resmed’s continued strong performance after the big dip when GLP-1 mania was in full effect.

The suggestion in recent years that Resmed's product was going to be displaced by a drug that was going to rid the world of obesity, was the longest bow I've seen drawn in my history as an investor. I'm pretty sure there will be more overweight people in 10 years than now. It created a window to pick up a great company at a pretty good price. I also think advancements in smart watch tech, allowing easy diagnosis is still an under appreciated tailwind. I'm a happy holder but the risk I see is more around the device. As a prospective customer, I will do everything in my power (including losing weight) to not have to wear that clunky thing to bed every night. Maybe device and battery technology will improve in the future to make the device more appealing.

To add to that I see plenty of people who need CPAP but either can’t afford it or don’t like it so they don’t use it… OSA can be a bit like high blood pressure in that you don’t know it’s causing you long term damage until the damage is obvious

Yes. And also I’m not sure how many people are like me but I don’t want to hear about stuff that could kill me. And this creates a hurdle to book in, get in the car and go for a sleep apnea assessment. However, I have less resistance to pressing a button on my smart watch and having it tell me I have an issue. That’s why I think the development of smart watch technology to diagnose this stuff is so big.

I agree the GLP-1 is definetly not an issue. It's funny i think the new medical treatments being developed now and coming to market are much more of a risk to RMD than the weight loss drugs and yet the market does not care.

The Apnimed once-a-day pill for instance which I'm sure will get better.

Think that's why there is so much speculation about them making a drug company acquisition like Icannex.

Yes. Totally. The big risk is a better device/treatment for sleep apnea itself rather than a silver bullet for fat loss. Acute interventions like short term diets and pills have had such a bad record of impacting sustained weight loss. Much of the weight loss from short term calorie reduction is lean body mass loss which leads to people eventually gaining more fat than before the calorie reduction commenced because of a messed up metabolism. Given you’re not taking them forever the drugs are well and truely in that camp and I have no idea how they were ever taken seriously as an intervention for a chronic problem.

But yes. The prospect of a better sleep apnea device/treatment is a definite risk. Hopefully Resmed can be the one to develop this superior product. I think they should invest a bit of R and D in this and even buy any aspiring competitors using their position of strength.
