Am I being too harsh/cynical in thinking this kind of stuff is a red flag?

Maybe it's overly simplistic, but when the CEO is bringing in consultants it feels like a tacit admission that they are bereft of any ideas and are essentially outsourcing their job.

Why are shareholders paying Hrdlicka a base salary of $2m, with an low bar STI bonus that can boost that to over $4m per annum, if she is just going to turn around and hire someone else?

I'd have more sympathy if the big consultants had a great track record, but that's a rather dubious assertion:

From the London Times in 2024:

Now, a fresh pair of eyes can certainly help. And there are some super smart cookies at these consulting firms, but they operate under different incentives, and dont have any skin in the game.

Anyway, i'm probably just a grumpy old man who likes to shake his fist at the sky :)

i ran into her a bit when she was at QAN, didn't think much of her then or at A2M or at Virgin (maybe I've missed one), don't think I'll be changing my mind at EDV.... although she is due for a win lol

Jane has been good at hiring many friends (cough, I mean people fit for the job) in the past. I have witnessed a few in my area (pro tennis). Trying to learn to keep my mouth shut but it is not working.......

More help than hindrance.

Not did they help or not help (ie neutral outcome)

Their involvement made it worse.

Amazing.

Waiting for the announcement about restructuring and reducing headcount. Bonus points for mention of AI.

My goodness, you have missed the classic legal trick of. - quote - Fees exceeding but say $250,000 as a gesture of good faith!

also by not putting in the cents, Jane will think it is cheaper!

of course this will be at the end of your 4 foolscap pages of densely typed instructions/activity which nobody will read, but it looks like you have been busy.

I love a good dose of cynicism. Is it jobs for da boys, probably.

But generically, sometimes hiring from outside, for a closed end task, leaves the internal staff to keep doing their day job, and not split effort across two tasks.

Seems there is great rewards for failure, or better still, leaving companies in the lurch when you run for the front door when things under your control aren't working.

The only surprising thing is how that rates as someone you would want as your new CEO. Good luck Endeavour, all the alcohol at Dan Murphy's is unlikly to save you.

Former Virgin Australia CEO Jayne Hrdlicka’s $49.9m exit package revealed

Virgin Australia’s former chief executive, Jayne Hrdlicka, is set to walk away with an extraordinary $49.9 million payout, combining cash payments and shares, following her sudden resignation earlier this year.
