Forum Topics BHP BHP BHP to settle 30% of spot iron ore in Yuan

I recall reading/seeing this a week or so back but it's worth a re-look, this is huge and potentially another sign of the shift away from the USD.

First 30%, then when does the full 100% get settled in the Yuan - then, when do other miners follow suit?

You can read the full article here.

Probably worthy of a rant on the podcast Andrew.

I saw this too, as @Strawman has discussed on the Podmachine, the dominant currency has changed multiple times throughout history. It will be interesting to see if this is the thin edge of wedge for China replacing US Dollar hegemony some time in the future. I agree, this would be well worth a rant.

This presentation by my favourite economic historian touches on this topic (sort of) @Seymourbutts @tomsmithidg:

Found that video really interesting and informative. Had my head spinning in some places.

I've just finished "Smart Money" by Brunello Rosa. It's basically about how China is trying to usurp the US dollar as the reserve currency through the Belt and Road Initiative and more specifically, their Central Bank Digital Currency. Essentially, they realised that simply replacing the US dollar with the RMB is extremely difficult without introducing currency freedoms the CCP aren't willing to introduce, but if they control the payment rails, then they can achieve their goal easily.

@Strawman It would be great if we could bookmark posts like this, so we can come back when we have time to devour the brilliant content posted on SM.

Bookmarking comes up a lot @Bushmanpat.

As it happens, i'm in discussions with someone right now about how we can add this, as well as sharpen up some of the UI..

And in the meantime @Bushmanpat you can use the search function at the top of the "Forum" screen to find forum threads (even ones that are many years old) that interest you, including ones that resulted from someone commenting on a Straw or Valuation (which creates a forum thread). To perform such a search, click on the "Forum" tab (between "Meetings" and "Blog" at the top of the screen) and type at least 4 letters from the forum title into the search bar and hit the "Return" key (or click on the magnifying glass at the right end of the search bar). The minimum that the search function requires is 4 characters.

In this particular case, you may not remember the full forum title, which is "BHP to settle 30% of spot iron ore in Yuan" (under "BHP"), however if you just remember that it is about Chinese currency and type "Yuan" into the search bar, at this point this particular forum is the only one that results from that search.

This search feature works for all forum threads created since the inception of this website, so a handy feature that is available right now. I often use it before I post new content as a forum post - because I don't want to start a new forum thread on a topic that already exists here. I would rather use an existing thread than create another one on the same topic.

The big drawback of this search feature is that it ONLY works for forums, there is not currently any search function for standalone straws or valuations. With those, you have to remember what company they were posted under, and it also helps to know who posted that content so you can go straight to their report on that company.

However the forum search function works well, IF you can remember at least part of what the forum title was.

Looking forward to the new UI features @Strawman.

Thanks @Bear77 I'll keep that in mind as it's good info. I did have in mind bookmarking that particular post of SMs as it has a link to a YouTube video that I'd like to watch, but didn't have a spare hour at the time.
