Forum Topics Weird Ideas

I've recently been spending a bit of time scrolling Seek and Linked in, keeping an eye out for a potential career jump opportunity... and in the process of investigating whether I'd want to work for 'x' company, I've ended up a decent way down the rabbit hole of assessing said company from an investor lens. I just can't help myself. Then I find myself playing the game of "would I really want to work here?" versus "I can fix it" (because I'm a sucker for a fixer-upper). Twice in the past 6 months I've actually ended up buying shares, whether applying for the job or not.

My question for here is this: What weird way have you stumble across companies you like?

Good topic @Lisa_Llama - I can't think of any weird ones right now, but I often come across companies that I end up holding shares in by reading about them in ASX announcements from (or media articles about) companies I already hold and/or follow and I go down the rabbit hole to find out what they do and why they are associated with the company I hold or follow, and I end up buying shares in them. That is how I ended up holding GNG and LYL originally - my two largest positions currently - from reading many years ago that a gold company I held shares in had awarded them an EPC or EPCM contract for a gold mill build or a gold mill upgrade.

I also get a fair few stock tips and I rarely buy shares in those companies, but I have occasionally ended up buying shares in their peers / competitors as a result of doing some research into the companies that were tipped.

@Lisa_Llama I recently came across a stock I liked and subsequently made a tidy profit on by trying to guess (incorrectly) a stock that @Bear77 had alluded to but not named in one of his posts.
