What do we think about Caltex?
I initially purchased caltex in late 2018 at $27/share because:
- Market share in Australia. (BP is expensive, 7/11 is 'cheap' fuel. Caltex is 'just right', right in the middle)
- Aust. Government's fuel storage infrastructure requirement: Aust. does not have enough storage capacity. Is there a possibility for caltex to step onto the plate?
- Possibility for fuel profit margin incease. Considering fuel was ~1.20 at the time, and we know there's capacity for people to pay up to $1.60 for fuel.
Negatives:
- Poor asset integrity, but then again. Who does have outstanding asset management?
- Reliance on foodary / store sales. I know I don't buy anything in their stores. But I guess there's plenty who do?
- Not possible to dicate fuel profit.
----
Recently they had a bid at $34.5/share by a Canadian company.
I sold at $33.5 and am happy with my first ever stock purchase.
Curious to know other people's thoughts.
