Interesting to see Equity Mates has been sold to Betashares. According to Capitalbrief the sale price was a cool $8.5 million in cash and equity.

Just imagine if you'd had a successful retail investing podcast (with a couple of mates) that you'd let go recently...

@Noddy74 very provocative Noddy, lol. I watched about 2 minutes of these guys, then lost interest. good luck to them. Podcasts, from my experience (and I've listened to plenty), seem to be 80% entertainment and 20% useful info at best. maybe that's just the point, and I'm missing it.

It's not about the money @Noddy74, but the friends you make along the way...

Incredible price for a couple of mom-and-pop blokes riffing about stocks. Is this another sign of euphoria?

Of course, the buyer (Betahares) is a big whale, so they can afford to lose a few mill to acquire the kind of audience these guys have.

My take is less a sign of euphoria and more a change in how financial services firms go after their market.

The start of the new normal perhaps?

Wow. Equity Mates have essentially made investing hip for the under 40s and now monetised that audience. I guess ETFs are the new way to invest and thematic ETFs like Betashares still gives them potential to try to outperform. Pretty simple formula in hindsight. I didn't see that coming. They just seemed to a couple of mates enjoying talking about stocks like you'd chat about the footy.

The regulators must be cool with it. Are they now skirting a fine line between financial advice and channeling sales into financial products?

Now I'm wondering how other finfluencers will monetise?

I’m a part time listener to their podcast and caught the announcement episode.

They did call out the fact that they retained full editorial control. So I assume (always a risk) that all ads on the show will now be for Betashares and they will get access to all their customer and listener data (probably the most valuable element for them).
