Probably the wrong forum - but here's my query Strawman.  I added 4 companies to my Strawman.com scorecard yesterday afternoon - well before the market closed.  Three of those companies were added at the day's closing price.  However one (TGG) was not - and is still showing as "Pending".  Now I know they traded yesterday because I bought more TGG into two of my real-life portfolios at $1.185 and at $1.19.  They closed up 2c (for the day) at $1.19.  Why then are they still shown as "Pending"?  Two of the four companies I added to my scorecard yesterday were added AFTER I added TGG, and those two companies were succesfully added at the day's closing price.  So it's NOT because I added them too late in the day, and it's also NOT because they didn't trade on the day.  What gives?

Very good question! Let us investigate this right away -- looks like it should have gone through. It might take us a few days, but whatever happens we'll ensure you get those trades at yesterday's price. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks - those TGG trades now show as having gone through yesterday at $1.19, so all good. Any idea what happened?

G'day Strawman

Firstly, love the newsfeed idea. Has been an excellent addition and pretty well executed.

I've got one small suggestion for possible improvement though. Can you explain to me the purpose of re-activating a straw?

Is that just for when a straw becomes stale due to time passing, the user can then reactivate it to keep it current? I've got a whole lot of news feed entries today for reactivated straws that I've already read. Doesn't really achieve much.

Cheers

Hi Dangles -- excellent point. We think it's important for Straws to decay so as to keep content relevant and uncluttered. But there's probably no reason why a re-activation needs to come up in the newsfeed. We'll add it to our list of fixes. You can find more about stale straws here: https://help.strawman.com/en/articles/2658255-what-are-stale-straws

Edits seem to appear for me, but if you can find an example of where they don't it'll help us pin down any bugs. Cheers

It seems like edits have the effect of immediate change to the original post within the feed, which is perfect really, rather than adding a subsequent edited straw or post at the top of the feed in addition to the previous version further down. This reduces clutter and duplication. That's how it seems to work for me anyway.

OK Anthill, I now see what you were referring to - Strawman, when we edit old straws, like straws that are 6 months old, these aren't added to the newsfeed. They are only added if they are updated valuations or new straws. If we were able to scroll down to straws posted 6 months ago, we would probably find the newsfeed would be displaying the newer edited version, but still time-stamped 6 months ago. This happens every time I edit a straw that is stale instead of reactivating it unchanged. Reactivated straws are added to the top of the newsfeed, but if I edit those straws instead, they are not. It's a bit inconsistent. If anything, edited straws are likely to be more relevant than ones that have been reactivated with no changes - as a general rule of course (not in every case), so the treatment of them seems a little strange (in terms of edited vs unedited stale straws that have been reactivated).

Ah right. So what we have done is to seperate "alerts" from new content. So the top right icon will light up and show you when:

  • you attract a new follower
  • Someone has liked a Straw or Valuation
  • A price alert is triggered
  • A valuation or Straw goes stale

Content from people or companies you follow now show up in the newsfeed (we've basically followed the approach used by Facebook and Twitter). So Straws, Valuations, Forum posts, new trade alerts all show up in your newsfeed -- just in chronological order. If you visit the associated company pages, you will still see unread markers on new content you havent seen.

We plan to offer greater personalisation features and even email alerts eventually, so users can customise things to their own preference. We might also add the unread icon to the items in the newsfeed. As with all of Strawman, it's an ongoing work in progress.

And we very much value the feedback of users too. We want to make this as useful a tool as we possibly can.

Let us know in this thread, or by emailing us at admin@strawman.com if you have any thoughts or suggestions. Our approach, in general, is to go with what a majority of users prefer -- so don't be backwards in coming forwards.
