$35 subscription for one year (promotion) for 10% savings on one shop per month at Woolworths and Big W. It’s a no brainer! My wife just signed up!

As a hard core QF points collector via WOW's Everyday Rewards, with 2 different membership accounts, a few insights from me:

The $35 signup deal has occurred before - think there was a window for that last year, around the same time as this year. There is an ongoing "extend membership for half price" offer as well. The membership, even at full price has always been good value as the 10% off per shop each month already pays for the membership comfortably.

I have noticed a distinct change in the manner and quantum of points being dished out since Brad left. The aggressiveness and frequency of the bonus point offerings have actually scaled back noticeably. I used to get 25x point for $x shops every 3-4 weeks or so across both cards (both have very different spend patterns) - they are now more spaced out, maybe 6-7 weeks once. Instead of 25x bonus, they are mostly now 10x bonus. I get the feeling that we are in a "transition period" of sorts" as it relates to working out how best to leverage the Everyday Rewards asset going forward.

The dramas around misleading specials etc has not quite changed the aggressiveness of the points offers, hence the thinking around the "transition period".

What I have noticed though, is that there SEEMS to be broader, heavier and more persistent discounting since the ACCC dramas were flagged - what used to be regularly discounted by 20%, now can discount for 30-40%. Could well be perception, but it does FEEL like there is more discount tickets when walking the aisles.

Interesting - i do wonder if the woolworths unlimited and now the new everyday extra which both have point multipliers stack. If you have that plus the boosts you could get quite a lot.

The 10% off one per month means it pays for itself in any case - smart.

Woolworths will always look bad against aldi (and it is more expensive) but it looks worse than it is when you consider the credit card surcharge at aldi, and none of these points etc.

Aldi of course is in store, limited range and only in urban areas so i think their offering is way over hyped. That said their tirimisu from italy is amazing.

@Mujo , I don't do online shopping so am not sure if the 2x points for Online is over and above the Extra's base 2x point increase - it could be. The $15 a month for Unlimited adds to the cost though.

Should also mention that for every extra WOW product you buy, there is a further 10% off shop per month, over and above the 10% discount from the Extra's. By product I mean WOW Mobile (which I have), WOW Pet Insurance, Car Insurance etc. I only do WOW Mobile because it is essentially a cheaper Telstra plan with the 10% monthly shop discount, which gives me essentially free mobile.

Also, the Extra membership gives a once-a-month 10% discount on Big W.

This is how I am locked into the WOW ecosystem ... which works very well for me as I need to buy groceries, buy the occasional houehold item and have a mobile from SOMEWHERE ...

They’ll need to be quick @mikebrisy. We won’t be making a capital investment of $35 twice! ;)

Ha, they already have started doing it. I've had offers through Flybuys for 10% discount off my shops.

Its a change in there discounting approach which previously was based around points to redeem, which in a way incentives more spending. The 10% discount is just giving away margin, especially when you consider that it is off the top, after any in store specials have already been applied.

Highlights to me how ruthless the fight for market share is, I don't see the appeal in paying up for these business's.
