More notification settings please

@Strawman I'm not sure if this is under consideration already. I would find use if there were multiple options for notifications when following companies or members. If straws, posts and trades could be broken out (i.e. toggled on/off so they don't show up in your notification feed), for example. Some companies I follow to see what the discussions are but have less interest in the trading. In other cases, some members have interesting trade habits worth following.

I wouldn't think this is a huge feat of tech coding. So in case it's not yet been covered, what's thoughts on this? Cheers

Anything is possible @Garfield -- it's always just a question of whether the cost/effort required is justified against competing priorities.

Right now you can customise the newsfeed to some extent using the 'filter newsfeed options' link at the top of the Home page feed:

So you can switch trade notifications on/off and likewise with forum posts. And yoyu can also select to only see stuff from people/companies you follow.

You can also customise things from a notifications standpoint by clicking on the bell icon at the top o fthe page:

And then clicking settings:

Hopefully this will do most of what your after, but if there's a specific filter option you had in mind we can definitely take a look.

@Strawman

Could we possibly have a new section on the landing page of each company that could provide the link to any previous Strawman meetings we have had with that company?

Thanks!

That's not a bad idea @BoredSaint

Whether that be the solution of just a way to catalogue and easily find Strawman meetings given the substantial library of content that has been built up.

Thanks @Noddy74

I think it would be useful as I often go to the Strawman page specific to each company I'm having a look at. And just having a tab that links to any past meetings would be really helpful rather than manually trying to sift through the meetings page.

Yeah that idea makes a lot of sense @BoredSaint

We've got some updates in the works, but will take a look at better organising the meetings when we get some clear air.

Apologies also for the radio silence from me on Strawman the last week or so - have tried to take a bit of time off with the kids over the holidays, but I'm keen to dig into some of the corporate news that's come out, and post some thoughts on Strawman.

@Strawman I'm not sure how many affiliate platforms / member discounts that you plan on offering through Strawman (eg Sharesight, Australian Shareholders Association), but after the recent forum thread on sharesight, I thought it may be worth having a separate page when these can be listed so that information isn't lost in the forums where it is posted. This would mean that members could find the sign-on discounts to get the benefits of the services that you have chosen to partner with and if there is some incentive for Strawman, then you would likely get an increased conversion rate as well.

The only ongoing affiliation is with Sharesight, and there's a blog page here: https://strawman.com/blog/manage-your-portfolio-in-style-with-sharesight/

I'll pin this to the first page of the blog so it's easily found.

I wonder if peeps would be interested in hearing from any non-listed fledgling companies? Although unlisted they do go through funding rounds and there are sometimes options for 'retail' investors to participate. There are a couple that come to mind:

  • Ensurance (ENA) recently made an investment in Koba Insurance - an investment that I am in two minds about. Koba claim to be the only pay-per-kilometre insurance company in Australia. Customers need to attach a device to a port under the steering wheel, which monitors kilometres travelled (it can also track a whole lot of other stuff raising some interesting future possibilities). They won a Fintech award in 2022 but are very early stage. Recently they celebrated 3 million kms billed, which is great but at 5 cents per kilometre (which seems to be the indicative rate based on a quote I took) that is only $150k in lifetime revenue. Even adding on a similar amount for the standing charge and they're still clearly a long way from any kind of scale. Having said that they celebrated 500,000 kilometres billed just 8 months ago so they're growing like the clappers. Their founder is Andrew Wong. He's on LinkedIn or I'm sure crowdfunders Birchal or Tom Kent from Ensurance could put you in touch.
  • Evee is another interesting idea. They're alot like Camplify (CHL), but instead of campers they create a marketplace for renting out Electric Vehicles from private owners. Evee happens to be going through a funding round right now, details of which can be found here. They make bank by taking a 35% cut of the booking and recently ticked over 16,000 rental days. Presumably they are hoping to ride the wave of EV adoption and the evangelistic nature of early adopters. Viacheslav Kozlovskii is the CEO and Founder.

[I have no investment in either company other than via Ensurance's investment in Koba, which I do own a bit of]

I'm certainly open to it @Noddy74. Even if investment is only open to "sophisticated" investors, there's often a good business or industry insight to be had.

If I get more than 10 likes to this post, I'll take that as a sign others would be interested too and will reach out.

Also, if anyone else has any contacts in the unlisted space that you think would be interesting, let us know and we can reach out.

@Bear77 Thanks for pulling the set of book/reading links together.

On a related note, the primitive forum search function which only searches forum topic titles rather than the content of the posts within each forum topic is a significant annoyance that directly leads to the scattering of related content across multiple forum threads or duplication of forum thread topics. I'd also vote for the top menu search function to grow forum and company meetings search visibility in addition to member + company search, and for search results to be grouped across each area of the site (company, member, meetings and forum) to further improve content discoverability.

Search can be tricky to do well so I definitely cut @Strawman and the dev team a bunch of slack here, but it would be super useful if the dev team could work to improve search and content discoverability functionality.

Yeah I agree @loshell. I'm not sure what's involved, but we'll have a look at it.
