This forum post is prompted by @Remorhaz 's straw in reply to my post on CSL broker views.

What research services are the Strawpeople using and what do they pay for them? To get the ball rolling, here are mine:

  • With Commsec (free) - I get GoldmanSachs Australia research notes and Morningstar Quantitative (which is good for long run historicals) but I don't pay much attention to under/fair/over assessments as it is purely based on historical analysis/algorithm.
  • FNArena has a sample of ASX research coverage, with a 3-4 line summary of research findings and updates on Target Price, EPS and DPS and a consensus from the limited database (typically, 30% to 60% of brokers covering). Annual fee $450.
  • Marketscreener.com - doesn't have qualitative info, nor vals by broker by does report average, max and min SP targets and history, with P/E and DPS forecasts/upgrades and downgrades. ASX and full international coverage - so good for sector comparisons. US$336 p.a. Seems to tpyically cover 2-3x FNArena database.

I was interested to hear @mikebrisy talk research tools on his excellent pow wow with @Strawman yesterday.

What do people use for financials – P&L, BS, CF and Earnings call transcripts?

Ideally to export / extract the financials to analyse them in XL – the more detailed the better.

Black Friday is throwing up some deals but keen to get some insights from Staw folk on what they find useful.

I see Marketscreener.com (Premium) is 40% off @ US$420 (@mikebrisyreco) - https://www.marketscreener.com/services/solutions/

Tikr Plus is US$180 - https://www.tikr.com/pricing

Or are any Broker platforms particularly good for this?

I recently subscribed to Finchat ($24 USD month) - in addition to TIKR

I found Finchat doesnt have as good a coverage of AU companies as TIKR - but it includes Transcripts and Recordings from Quartr.

Main reasons I selected Finchat

  • I find it very valuable to be able to listen to earnings/AGM calls & questions rather than just read the transcript as you can make judgements about how they answer questions. And having an archive of these to listen to when researching companies is great
  • Better UI/nicer to use than TIKR

I expect the coverage of Finchat to improve - but paid for TIKR in addition to ensure maximum coverage - and because cut and paste from TIKR is better/easier

However I find I prefer to stay in Finchat when I can

What i would really like is being able to download segment data - revenue/earnings etc. Tikr used to do that but stopped.

Does anyway know a provider that does that by chance?
