Came across this interesting snippet on Market Index

Since 1950, the S&P 500 has been up approximately 1% on average in October, which ranks as the seventh best month of the year. Having said this, it performs quite poorly during election years.

“Uncertainty ahead of Election Day can intensify Octoberphobia into a self-fulfilling prophecy, which can produce heightened volatility and market setbacks October is infamous for,” says AlmanacTrader.

September is supposed to be the worst month return wise, and particularly during the latter half. That did not play out at all this time - we probably already had our little correction in the beginning of the month. More frustration for net buyers of stocks as prices keep climbing!

I'm always a fan of a rising market @thunderhead. Hopefully October 2024 proves the exception to the rule for election years in the posted graph!!

It's nice of course, but only takes away from your future returns. If you are still in the accumulation phase, have a steady income and decades left in this game, it is a net negative. Atleast that's how I think about it :)
