I dont get it. So the app can possibly tell the difference between croup, asthma and pneumonia? Whats the value in this diagnosis? Any mum who has had a kid with croup knows the classic seal bark and asthma has its wheeze. Pneumonia has a productive cough along with fever. These are hardly difficult diagnosis to make and most gps could be just as accurate. And then theres the question of what to do once you have the diagnosis? You still need to go the doctor or pharmamcist to either pick up steroids, antibiotics or a bronchodilator so whats the point - you still need to see the gp or ed anyway. Many people like investigations and tests, but the vast majority of diagnosis are made from history and examination. This might offer a cute gimmick app purchase for $2.95, but unless they can identify a clear market and value proposition for where it offers benefit, i just dont get it. Robotic/ai based diagnosis may be the future, but this isnt. Happy to be corrected but the diagnosis that the app can figure out, are also things a second year medical student should be able to figure out as well (or any mum).
