NEW TIME: 24/10/23 2pm AEDT

Heads up that tomorrow's meeting with XRF Scientific has been pushed back a couple hours (my fault this time, I had something urgent come up, but Vance was gracious enough to be flexible).

I'll email the updated details, but just wanted to note it here.

Something which caught my eye at the bottom of the announcement:

XRF’s technology is used to measure the composition and purity of materials and is mainly applied in industrial quality control and in process control for manufacturing processes in industries such as metals and mining, construction materials, chemicals and petrochemicals.

XRF’s products help customers to improve product quality and performance, increase productivity and yield and reduce downtime and waste. Its businesses have established positions in their specialised markets

I think this sort of service offering will become more critical or even essential as firms and institutions demand verification in the purity of materials and minerals. Perhaps this could be a moat that can ride the economic cycles? We've already seen the Perth Gold scandal and the metal exchanges being caught with inferior products (painted bricks used in place of copper ingots etc..).

I don't mean to drive the share price higher and I could also be very wrong.

@CamSmedts34 great detailed straw on the latest results and historical financials. I’m not surprised by the high margin in FY13 and following drop off. The business is highly linked to mining, particularly back in 2013, and that was the height of the mining boom before it all came crashing down and to a screeching halt.

The trick for them now is to diversify away from mining so that they aren’t as impacted during the next downturn although I think it will always remain a big segment for them and so their results will be exposed to it.

While I think there are enough micro factors with XRF for investors to do well over the short/medium term, it is worth keeping an eye on the macro as it remains a cyclical business.

On that note the great Pete Wargent has compiled some drilling and exploration spend into some handy graphs on Twitter:

Cyclical conditions remain strong for now.
