Lots of speculation surrounding this contract.

1) Financial Review article today says Defence Department has recommended Rheinmetall tender.

2) Courier Mail reports emergency meetings with Qld Premier and Rheinmetall cancelled.

3) Geelong Advertiser reports Hanwa will build its Redback plant in Geelong.

I believe the Australian Government must announce this contract before they enter caretaker mode, which presumably means the announcement will occur this week.

Further news: The defence minister has indicated a decision will not be made until September. Reportedly, there are issues with Rheinmetall's Boxer CRV, with the turret being overweight. This may be the cause for the delay as the lynx IFV uses the same turret.

Perhaps this indicated the Lynx is the preferred IFV, but they are going to wait and see if the turret issues can be resolved before finalising the decision....
