I saw this was announced by Swoop on Linkedin-
"We are proud to announce that Swoop has been selected by the Victorian Government as a telecommunication partner to help roll out the massive ‘Connecting Victoria’ program, poised to bring significant benefits to over 130,000 businesses and households in 180 towns that are currently grappling with connectivity issues.
Swoop will offer Fixed Wireless services to bring faster and dependable internet access to three major sites, Mt Baw Baw, Moe, and Morwell, commencing this week with Mt Baw Baw. Despite its extreme weather conditions and its remote locality, Mt Baw Baw can now benefit from fast and reliable internet, which will support economic growth and boost local, small business tourism operators."
No value is ascribed to this deal for swoop or how much of the government money ($550 million total) is being provided to swoops part of the project- which is to deliver fixed wireless (70mbs download, 20mbs upload) services to 3 regional locations (Moe, Morewell and Mt Baw Baw). If they can connect another 130K users and further cement their reputation as a reliable regional telecomunications buisness then it can only be a positive for them.
