NMT SP to new record highs and through $1.00 today at time of writing on announcement of the completion of commissioning of the JV demonstration battery recycling plant. I continue to really value the team at NMT and their partners for delivering on their plans. Who knows whether they'll ultimately be successful in the aspiration to be the premier recycler of batteries - lots of competitive forces to play out there. What I admire about the NMT is the way they put capital and focus behind the opportuities that they rate most highly. This is another very positive step in the right direction.

BATTERY RECYCLING DEMONSTRATION PLANT FULLY COMMISSIONED

HIGHLIGHTS

  • All leaching, purification and recovery circuits of the Stage 2 hydrometallurgical refinery successfully wet commissioned; and
  • Continuous demonstration trials processing EV cells from European battery cell and carmakers scheduled to commence in November.

Innovative project development company, Neometals Ltd (ASX: NMT) (“Neometals” or “the Company”), is pleased to announce that Primobius GmbH (“Primobius”), the joint venture (“JV”) company owned 50:50 by Neometals and SMS group GmbH (“SMS group”), has successfully completed commissioning of its showcase lithium-ion battery (“LIB”) recycling demonstration plant (“DP”). The DP trial on EV LIBs will commence as scheduled in early November to generate data for the feasibility study as well as to demonstrate the safe, efficient, green recycling process to potential feedstock supply and product offtake partners.

Neometals’ Managing Director Chris Reed commented:

“This is another important milestone for Primobius. The demonstration trial is the conclusive phase of our evaluation with SMS and represents the key step in bringing our pipeline of potential plants into commercial reality. Inbound interest from the global EV supply chain in our efficient, green recycling process is exceptional. This interest coupled with the scalability and deliverability from our partnership with a leading global plant builder in SMS, augurs well for the achievement of our goal to become the leading recycling solution in the Western world.”

And further to the updates from @jwrostagno27 and me yesterday, NMT today realesed a detailed briefing paper of the recycling project which seems to have added more fuel to the share price gain.

Looks like the file for the briefing paper is too large to upload here, definitely worth a read for anyone interested in lithium, nickel, batteries, recycling etc... oh and of course NMT.

BATTERY RECYCLING DEMONSTRATION PLANT – STAGE 2 COMMISSIONING COMMENCES

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Primobius commences wet commissioning of Stage 2 hydrometallugical refinery;

  • Stage 2 takes black mass and uses solvent extraction to recover active cathode materials (lithium, nickel, cobalt, and

    manganese) as individual high-purity chemicals for re-use in the production of new lithium-ion batteries; and

  • Demonstration trials scheduled to commence in October and conclude in November.

    Innovative project development company, Neometals Ltd (ASX: NMT) (“Neometals” or “the Company”), is pleased to announce that Primobius GmbH (“Primobius”), the joint venture (“JV”) company owned 50:50 by Neometals and SMS group GmbH (“SMS group”), has commenced wet commissioning the hydrometallurgical refining circuits of its showcase lithium-ion battery (“LIB”) recycling demonstration plant (“DP”).

    The DP, located in Primobius’ leased building within the SMS group engineering competence centre in Hilchenbach, comprises a fully constructed Shredding and Beneficiation Circuit (Stage 1) and a Hydrometallurgical Refining Circuit (Stage 2). The entire leaching and solvent extraction circuits has been water tested and leaching of intermediate active material (“Black Mass”) from Stage 1 and filtering the carbon anode residue has commenced. The individual solvent extraction circuits (to recover copper, manganese, cobalt, nickel and lithium) will then be sequentially commissioned.
