Looking at this I was surprised to learn almost 1 in 3 Australians will be impacted by lung cancer. I would have thought with our now near zero smoking population this would be on the decline, which it is, but it is still in the top 5 cancers in Australia.
The new tech which has initially been deployed at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney was supported with $28.9M in funding from the Australian Medical Research Fund. The scanner allows 4D scanning of lungs with less radiation and fraction of time of traditional methods such as x-Ray or CT scans and provides "unparalleled access to visually map the lung and a highly visual insight into lung function”.
It is great to see tech like this being developed in Australia.
