According to shortman.com over 8% of KGN shares on issue are shorted. Which equates to approximately 8.5m shares. Making it the 7th most shorted stock on the ASX (as of 4 days ago).

Perhaps the update caught the shorters by surprise. Todays trading volume was 5.7m shares. Looks like shorters closing out their positions.
